Racist? Or Protection?
OK so I have a new rant, I was bumpin along the interwebz this morning and I came across this article. As I read it I wondered at what point should the Po Po stop their questioning, and at what point do we start asking our selves why the man immediately jumped up and decided this was all happening because he was black.
If the police show up at my house and request to see ID after I had to basically break into my own how because the door was jammed I'm pretty sure the first thing I'm going to do is produce ID and ask what this is all about. I'm not going to give them my school ID, or my Social Security card. I'm going to give them my State Identification Card. WHY!?!?! you may ask why because it has my address, my name and all the pertain information they will need to verify that I am in fact not breaking and entertaining. That I am in fact mearly attempting to enter my home in a forceful manner.
Now I'm going to shake this up a bit. Imagine if Someone had been breaking and entering on this mans house. The cops arrive and the man refuses to speak with police, and they leave. OHOOH they didn't do their job did they? Or suppose they continue to question the man that tells them this is just happening because he's black, so they leave. OHHHHHH again they didn't do their job and properly protect this mans property. Now suppose, just supposed the man was a breaking and enter and he produced a School ID and they turned and left cause what criminal in their right mind would forge an ID card, such as a school ID to get away with something. They still didn't do their job. They would be criticized in any of these situations.
But instead this man jumps up and makes him self a nuisance because he's offended that they gave a crap to do their job and attempt to protect his property. Now I can't attest for the local Police Department in that area, but I can tell you with outa doubt if I had proceeded to act in a manner such as this man I wouldn't expect anything other than to go to jail, and I'm pretty sure the judge would have a field day with my sentencing.
The moral of this story? Don't be a jackass just because your black. You pay their salary, to do their job, to keep your property and person safe. Give'em a hand until they prove that they don't deserve it. Everybody deserves a chance to express their intentions. nothing in this mans statements has left me any doubt that these officers where doing anything but their job. If he had stated that he produced his State ID/Drivers License with this address on it I'd totally be on his side that they should have left immediately, and from what I read in the article they attempted to do just that, so he proceeded to follow them into a public area. There are defiantly other ways this could have been handled, but I don't blame the officers one bit from what the article says.
