Parents of The World Untie!
Today's topic "Bar Hopping, Injury Report!" Don't step in the puddles on the side walk their nasty.
Ok, so I'm posting two days in a row I know someone’s gonna have a heart attack. I'm finally taking the advice of my sibling and reading stuff and putting my opinions down. Who knows how long this will last, I sure don't. Anyway lets hop right into the fires of hell and satanic cults, coupled up with some light baby eating *yeah, Cap'n O I know we aren’t ever going to mention that post ever again*. I was reading my usual dose of web comics this morning and I did something rather unusual for me I read the little news/blog post after the comic. Oh this stoked that emotional fire under my seat. Anyway this comic artist we'll call him Howard...cause that’s his name. Anyway Howard put this little post out asking for a bit of help.Well at first I was a tad bit irritated that someone would have to gather all the info for this! I mean really I respect the fact that Howard's willing to do the work, gather all the info and wrap it up with a little bow on top. But really I think what scares me is that he reminds me that there are still people out in the world who think D&D (that’s Dungeons & Dragons for those of you who haven't every dealt with it) is a satanic occult training ground, I think that’s pretty close anyway. Well I've had this discussion with some people who are very close to me, and they where VERY surprised that I had been one of those RPG nerds huddled up in some back room reading the Players Handbook by candle light rolling dice to decide the fate of that person we just picked up off the street. I mean really come now have you ever seen those dice...I wanna see you try to read the number by candle light! Anyway the point I'm making is that I can't understand how in today’s world people still think like this, but they do and they normally don't have the initiative to make the attempt to understand it. I know there are people who there who are just reading this thinking "Mouse, how in the world could I do that?" Ohhh I don't know maybe pick up one of the game books and learn to read? I mean really is 15 or 20 bux not worth knowing what your children are doing or interested in or maybe even that their friends that they hang out with all the time are doing? I also understand you can't spend 15 or 20 bux every time you hear something disturbing that comes outa little Jimmy's mouth, But really if it disturbs you that much get off your duff and take a glance. Once you get about 30 pages into it you'll realize, oh hey this is a game just like monopoly or shoots and ladders. Just for a bit more mature crowd. Actually I strike that statement; because some of these parents are the same ones who buy there kid Grand Theft Auto. Umm really, you can buy them a video game with drug dealers, hookers, and stealing cars. Though your gonna take a fantasy game which encourages kids to read, use their imagination, and work their math skills, and call it evil and say they can't have it?
Now I'll admit the kiddos who do play need some grounding in reality. Isn't it the same with everything else though? Aren’t parents supposed to be trying to get little Jimmy in shape to strike out on his own, and become a positive part of society, or am I way off base here? I don't want to just rant about parenting styles, I'm not one so I can't stand in your shoes. Though I do believe thats where things go wrong. Yes I think it's your fault that 12 year old Jenny is prego. Go ahead tell me why it's not, please prove me wrong. My parents weren’t the model parents, but ya know what by the age of 13 and I'm not sitting in jail for trying to rob some ol'lady in the parking lot. All I ask is that you take a little initiative and pay attention.
Now on the other side of the coin with parenting. Kids are SNEAKY! Stuffs gonna happen, and your gonna wonder how you didn't see it coming. Well you know what? There’s no way to have seen it coming. Kids are smart and adaptable, they probe to see where the holes in the defenses are. Then oh my....they exploit them till they can be exploited no more! The trick? Jump on it as soon as you see something funny. A child isn't going to jump to an extreme right away they are going to push it a little further every time, and they will lie when they are caught, period end of story. It's up to you as the adult to take charge and give the kids a good sense of "cause and effect" along with "risk and reward". I think what I'm trying to say is, your a good parent if you do everything you can to pay attention, and put a little effort into finding out about something before you buy it for you kiddos or before banishing it to the realm of satanic baby eating occult with dice.

Very well put. Maybe this should be a required reading for the parenting license test...What, there's no license to bear children?
